We’re looking for exceptional storytelling that’s in line with our mission: stories that take risks, tackle important issues, address the needs of underserved audiences, and are seldom seen in public media. We know how hard you’ve worked on your project, and we’ll partner with you to help you finish it, then distribute it on public television.

Deadline: February 14, 2020

Opportunities

Sundance Ignite Short Film Challenge

Sundance Ignite identifies and supports new voices and talent from the next generation of filmmakers and fosters fresh audiences for independent storytelling. Established in 2015 with founding support from Adobe, the program offers individuals ages 18 to 25 the Ignite Ticket Package, an exclusive chance to see the newest films at the Sundance Film Festival; the Ignite Fellows Program, a competitive and year-round artist-development program supporting emerging filmmakers with a year of mentorship and program opportunities; and Sundance Ignite traveling programs.

HBO Asian Pacific American Visionaries Short Film Competition

Asian Pacific American Visionaries, together with the Los Angeles Asian American Film Festival and the Coalition of Asian Pacifics in Entertainment (CAPE), is a short film competition that provides emerging directors of Asian and/or Pacific Islander descent to showcase their work.

Impact Kickstart

For a documentary film to make a difference, a solid strategy for audience engagement and strong partnerships are key. Filmmakers often lack time to do this work themselves or the expertise and the funds to pay for it. Emerging artists, creators of color, and other underrepresented artists can face the biggest hurdles, despite the potential of their projects. Working Films’ response to this challenge is Impact Kickstart, a program offering in-kind strategy development to underrepresented documentary makers with feature films in progress that hold great promise to catalyze action to address critical issues of our time.

Up to four filmmakers receive an Impact Kickstart from Working Films each year. The 2020 Impact Kickstart application will open in December 2019 and close in February 2020. Find out how to apply and view past awardees here.
