Announcing of Pacific Heartbeat Season 13
AWARD WINNING PACIFIC ISLAND FILM SERIES BEGINS PBS BROADCAST RUN
PRESS RELEASE
(Honolulu)—Pacific Islanders in Communications (PIC) today announced the launch of its Pacific Heartbeat series. The PBS broadcast series kicks off its 13th year on August 20th with four consecutive weekly episodes to follow.
Pacific Heartbeat is an anthology series that provides viewers a glimpse of the real Pacific—its people, cultures, languages, music, and contemporary issues—with films from Micronesia, Melanesia, Polynesia, Australia, and their diasporic communities. The series can be viewed on multiple PBS platforms—TV, the PBS app, and PBS.org. View the Season 13 trailer here, and please find attached a table detailing the series line-up.
"We believe Pacific Island stories deserve to be shared on a national stage with authenticity, care and creative excellence," said Maluhia Kaimikaua Snook, PIC's Interim Executive Director. "As we celebrate PIC's 35th anniversary, the launch of Season 13 is especially meaningful. We honor the enduring legacy of the late Leanne K. Ferrer, whose vision, leadership, and unwavering belief in the power of storytelling established Pacific Heartbeat. We are proud to carry that legacy forward with five new films reflecting the depth of Pacific Island cultures and experiences. We are grateful to PBS for its continued partnership in ensuring these voices are seen, heard, and celebrated."
"This coming season, there's an incredible slate of stories, from the fight to protect sacred mountains, to the deep responsibility of stewarding ancestral lands, to a mother's pursuit of a natural water birth rooted in tradition. Pacific Heartbeat continues to be one of the few national platforms where these stories are told with the nuance and care they deserve. We're proud to bring this season to viewers and grateful to Pacific Islanders in Communications for the artistry and partnership behind it,” Michael E. Tang, Director PBS Plus.
